Xel-Ha Mayan Riviera with the Knight Family

What a fabulous day! Our second day of our spring break with the Knights and we went to Xel-ha just south of our hotel in Cancun. It was a beautiful day for a drive and we were really excited to show Dave, Monic, Kieran, and Payton all the sites of Mexico! After too much sun the day before, the overcast day was very welcome.

We started the adventure by jumping into the main swimming area and snorkeling.  This was a wide open space and everyone needed a life jacket to enter the water. As the kids put on their jackets and snorkeling equipment we started swimming out. Kieran surprised everyone and jumped right in with me and then started swimming with Lyn away to one of the islands. Evan was a little more trouble as he didn’t want to wear his life jacket and therefore nothing else was good – his mask was not right, his snorkel didn’t work – so he just floated along with us as we all swam and enjoyed watching all the fish in the bay. This was amazing, but Payton found the motherlode of tropical fish near the steps where we were getting out of the water.

After a quick lunch buffet, we were off to swim with the dolphins. Everybody had chosen to swim with the dolphins so we did the full experience of one hour in the water with them. All the kids were very excited, and although a little bit leery, they really enjoyed the interaction with the dolphins. The last portion of the dolphin swim was everyone getting pushed through the water by the two dolphins and standing up with arms spread for balance. Evan, Noah, and Kieran did amazing at this and Payton tried twice. Monica and Lyn both lost their swim suit bottoms so fell off early, and Dave was a lot of work for the two little dolphins!

The river float was ok in the tubes, a little bit long and we wished we had brought our masks along for this but we didn’t know what to expect. As we floated down the river we stopped at cliff jumping where Payton, Evan and myself all jumped about 4 meters to the water. We also slowed down for them to all enjoy the zip-line over the water.

Thank you for the great pictures Dave & Monica! They are hanging on the wall already and everybody loves them.
