Noah’s team made the finals in the Progreso Tournament and had to play their last game of that tournament on Wednesday night against the Tiburones! We had beaten them before in regular season games but that was not to happen this time. We got clobbered. I am thinking Noah had too much of a rest before the game as he got dressed early and was very pumped up and then when we went to leave I found him in bed… Not a pretty game to watch and the other team played very well. This division of Manchester got second place in the tournament which is still pretty good but Noah was definitely disappointed.
On the same night, the older boys had their final game of the tournament as well and their regular goalie, Jorge, was away on holidays with his family so they asked Evan to play. Evan did a fantastic job for them when the ball came his way which was not very often. Evan’s defence did a tremendous job blocking the shots and keeping the ball at the other end of the field until the last minute of play. Somehow the other team got a 3 on 1… the ‘1’ being Evan. He managed to stop the first shot but the rebound bounced right back out and the second player kicked it in. The final score was 6-1! Evan was so happy and was once again interviewed for the local paper.
This was a very exciting soccer game and not only had an announcer giving the play by play, but also had THREE referees! Very competitive at this level. The goalie of the winning team, Evan, received a trophie and they also stood on the podium to receive the team trophie which they all then proceeded to run around the field on their ‘victory lap’! They were all so excited and it was great to watch them finish in first place for that division.
