Beach day at the Costa Club

On Sunday we were invited to spend the day at the Costa Beach Club in Chelem, which is in the town right next to Progreso. This beach club was perfect for the kids. There is a huge play area, large pool (waist deep for kids), beach area, basketball court, soccer field, palapas with hammock hooks.

If you are coming to the Costa Club, it is important that you bring your own hammocks to hang underneath the shaded sections on the beach. You are not supposed to bring your own coolers full of beer and chips and sandwiches and beer and pop and beer. If you do bring such a cooler, you will be politely asked to take it back to your car… Adults are 10pesos and kids over 8 are considered adults, small kids are free:)

They do have a cantina which has beer, pop, beer, chips, beer. A restaurant which served pescada frita (yummy) and shrimp cocktails and all kinds of fish plates with tortillas. The beer is very cold here.

This particular day started off with rain storms in the morning so the beach was not full when we arrived at 1pm. The Costa Club is set up to entertain the cruise ship guests on cruise ship days, they rake the sand, set up all the furniture, put the water toys out, have the music blaring. We did not get to experience all this but it was a great day to sit around chatting and meeting new people from the area and learning about their experiences in Mexico. And of course there was beer :)

I believe we will be spending many Sunday’s at the beach club in Chelem!

We are expecting you to find us an English speaking church that we can go to before spending time at the Costa Club in Chelem. Would also be good if you found a great eating spot nearby.

We have found the perfect spot for breakfast / lunch in Chelem at the Taco Maya, which is a spot run by English people and is a favorite with the expat community. They are open from 10am to 2:30 pm Thursday – Sunday, we think! Great breakfast burrito’s and omelettes.
They are doing an October fest fare on Tuesday, October 25 with sausages and sauerkraut, we will be there for sure!

I will work on finding the church, although a little Spanish church may be better for you!
