Mother’s Day in Progreso at school and at home!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wow, Mother’s Day week is finally over! Mother’s Day in Mexico is always on May 10th and this year that was a Friday. The kids had prepared all kinds of things for the mom’s at school. All the classes had a song to sing to their mother’s and the mother’s were all served orchata (coconut rice milk – very good when ice cold!) and cake. Of course, school was only open from 8:30 to 10:30 today, but they were done by shortly after 9! Then we headed out to Merida for some lunch at TGIF and ice skating at Liverpool Mall for the entire day, followed by Little Caesar’s pizza and beer at Mario and Ivonnes.

Canadian Mother’s Day on Sunday at our house started off with a soccer game for Noah at 8 am and they played almost half of the game and were winning when the other team decided they were tired and forfeited the game. Noah got one assist but has not had a goal yet. We thought that today was the day, but the other team left early.

Brunch was at our house today and we were doing a fairly traditional Canadian style breakfast for all of our Mexican friends. Freshly squeezed orange juice which went fabulously with the sparking wine! Fresh raspberries, strawberries, pears and mangoes for a fruit salad and to go on top of the waffles. Waffles, scrambled eggs, eggs over easy, 3 pounds of bacon and a pound of spicy breakfast sausage. All served up on our beautiful front porch with the breeze blowing through, it was still very hot! Breakfast was very enjoyable and we had great friends with us: Francisco, Landy, Alex, Ara, Joaquin, Edgar, Mario, Ivonne, Bruno and Sophia.

The afternoon activities included sitting around the pool and swimming for the entire afternoon and drinking raspberry and strawberry mojitos! Thank you Mario for the excellent beverages, much appreciated. Gulam, Mateus, and Sophia joined us for the afternoon swim.

Finally we finished the day off with some spectacular baby back ribs, slow cooked and smothered in Tony Roma’s bbq sauce. Yummy!

Unfortunately the day ended with Lyn packing her bags and getting ready for an early flight to Canada for three weeks. We all love you and miss you already!
