Christmas Decorations at Liverpool Mall in Merida

We were meeting friends at Liverpool mall in Merida yesterday and had fifteen minutes to walk around the mall before proceeding downtown. We were quite amazed at the amount of decorations in the mall and were especially impressed by the Swarovski Christmas tree. This tree was completely covered in crystals! It was really quite beautiful and pictures may not do it justice. The mall really was decorated for the holiday season, which I believe really starts today with the The Virgin of Guadalupe celebration. Every day leading up to today, there are pilgrimages all over Mexico. The Virgin of Guadalupe is the Patron Saint of Mexico. For more information on The Virgin of Guadalupe please visit YucatanToday for their fantastic article. YucatanToday.com is the Tourist Guide for the area and is a great resource when planning trips to the Yucatan. While you are in the Yucatan you should definitely pick up a printed copy to keep with you of their magazine to refer to while exploring.

I managed to get the boys to almost cooperate and had some pictures of them in the mall posing with some of the decorations. We did not see a Santa at the tree, but the large red chair almost made us believe we had just missed him.

We were at Plaza Grande Mall during the week as well but I did not have my camera with me. This mall was also very decorated for the holiday season and the smell of FRESH PINE TREES was evident everywhere! There is nothing like the smell of home to make you miss it during the holiday season. However, having the smell of fresh cut trees and being able to load the tree in your car while wearing shorts and a t-shirt is also good. Still get the benefit of the smell and enjoy some warm weather also. We did not expect to find REAL CHRISTMAS TREES while staying in the Yucatan, but were very surprised to see them appear in stores in mid-November:)  They are beautiful trees and the most expensive I have seen in the tree lots is about 349 pesos ($25.91CDN) and this will get you a tree about 5-6 feet tall and includes the stand! We will be adding a section of Christmas trees to this soon as they are still available – we pick-up our tree this Friday and the boys have already started making the decorations which will adorn our tree this year.

Yes, you can see from the pictures that we had to break out the winter coats finally! This was due today to the rain falling outside and as were going to be outside all day, we thought coats would be necessary. Although the other day I went to pick up the boys from school and was quite surprised to see little people all dressed up in big bulky winter coats and scarves while we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts. Yes it did get a little cool that day but was still about 18 degrees Celsius out:)

  1. Grandma and Grandpa says:

Hey now those Swarovski crystals are more to my liking than bull fights! The ice rink reminds me of West Edmonton Mall! And if those are “winter” coats, you aren’t suffering too much. lol
