Merida City Bus Tour

I believe that when you have visitors to the city of Merida, it is very important to put them on the City Bus Tour. It is a tour we did when we first started to explore the city of Merida and it really gives you a grasp of where things are and some of the history of this great city. Our tour guide today was Pedro, a friendly individual who spoke good English. The tour itself is just under two hours with a quick bathroom break at the Fiesta Americana. We boarded the tour at Calle 55 x 60 across from Santa Lucia Park. Tour times are 10-1-4-7- and the price is 90 pesos for adults.

This was the first time we took our boys on the bus tour and they really enjoyed it as well. Evan was just studying about Francisco Madero and was quite shocked to be able to see his home. This home is located just off the Plaza Grande and is the home of the man who was responsible for starting the Mexican Revolution in 1910. My parents, who are in town for a few weeks, also greatly enjoyed the tour of the city. Although at times it is hard to hear the guide due to city noise you do get a history of the city.

While we were sitting in Santa Lucia Park having a quick snack, Evan was stung by a bee on his leg and started screaming. Before we could attempt to remove the stinger, the Municipal Policeman arrived and quickly showed us how to properly remove a stinger without pushing it in further. He brushed it upwards with his finger and it just popped out! We quickly applied the ‘After-Bite’ from our first aid kit and Evan was a happy camper again. It had started to swell but as soon as we applied the after-bite, the swelling reduced immediately.

The tour proceeds through many colonials in the city of Merida and really allows you the opportunity to get a feel for the city. We have taken the ‘knocked out’ bus both times we have gone on this tour as we have been told this bus has access to more than the double-decker bus tour due to the power lines and trees overhanging many of the streets. We have not taken this tour yet in the evening but maybe next time!

Here are some good pictures of the city, but not enough that you shouldn’t experience it yourself!
