Canada Day and Fourth of July BBQ in Progreso, Yucatan

On June 26th there was a bbq planned for all the Canadian and American expats in the area celebrating both Canada Day and the Fourth of July.

This event was used as a fund raiser for the International Womens Club and the Merida Mens Club charities and was co-sponsored by the Beach Gals and the Sons of the Beach clubs in Progreso. They had the band “Sol Survivor” playing all afternoon and if you have not heard this band yet, they are really quite entertaining and play great music.

All you can eat: Hamburguers & Hot Dogs
Tickets were:Adults: 125 pesos; Childre 6-12: 50 pesos; Under 6: Free

Unfortunately the weather was not very cooperative on this day but the bbq went full steam ahead. We did donate our bbq to the Sons of the Beach to use for this event as they were looking for bbq’s to help feed the masses. As we were moving, we had Reg pick up the bbq early for the event and then he was supposed to find it a nice new home!

We definitely enjoyed ourselves and met many new people and families from the surrounding communities. Once the kids got used to the rain they were running all over the place, mostly on the malecon itself and the beach which was nice to not have them all underfoot. We were in the middle of packing our house so this was a fantastic break in the afternoon and gave us a chance to enjoy the afternoon with our friends.

There were a few brave souls swimming in the pool with their children. The pool there is very deep so don’t just let your kids jump in.
